Help Gender Reel Minneapolis celebrate national coming out day on October 11 with month long screenings of over 22 amazing films.

Gender Reel, is the countries only coast-to-coast, grass-roots, soon to be non-profit, traveling film and art festival dedicated to enhancing the visibility of gender non-conforming and transgender people, images and experiences. This year, we are hosting festivals in five cities across the United States: Minneapolis (our home town), Boston, Durham, Houston and Omaha.

This year, Gender Reel Minneapolis is being held in two amazing locations --- Bryant Lake Bowl (810 W Lake St, Minneapolis) and Trylon Microcinema (3258 Minnehaha Ave, Minneapolis).

7:00 PM — Opening Reception & Photography Display of Visible Bodies: Transgender Narratives Retold --- complementary snacks provided by Family Tree Clinic.

7:30 PM — Q&A with Rebecca Lawrence of Visible Bodies

7:45 PM — She — This film follows a day in the life of Andre St. Clair, a gender non-conformist, who pushes the boundaries of gender identity.

8:00 PM — Kate Bornstein is a Queer & Pleasant Danger — This documentary explores the life of and work of trailblazing performance artist-theorist-activist, Kate Bornstein.

9:15 PM — "Doing It Differently" — In the spirit of Kate Bornstein's convention-defying life and work a panel of local trans women discuss their own diverse experiences of transition — Cat Hammond (Facilitator), Quinn Villagomez (Host), Kamarree and Claire Kohner.

During this event, we will be hosting a silent auction to raise funds for the festival. We will be auctioning off two amazing sets of photographs, signed copies of vinyl records & CD's, back copies of trans magazines, and much more. Bidding starts at $20.00 per item.

This event is Co-sponsored by Smitten Kitten — Twin Cities progressive sex toy store for people of all genders and orientations.

6:30 PM: Short Film Series — This series of film shorts challenge the gender binary through the use of thearectical imagery, animation and personal interviews ----
Short Films: My Cake, Gender Dysphoria, Yin & Yang, 1987 Summer, Tricyclic Transformation, Internal Body Shots, Bare

7:15 PM: Xampy — This film explores the life of a gender variant individual living in Sao Paulo.

8:30 PM: Minneapolis premiere of Eden’s Garden, a film exploring the experiences of black and latino trans men.

9:00 PM: Q&A with Seven King, the creator of Eden's Garden, will follow the screening along with a panel discussion about the experiences of TMOC featuring King, Andre Bordeaux, Qamar Saadiq Saoud and Minkis Boisse.

6:30 PM: Short Film Series — This series of film shorts look at the history of the trans masculine movement, explores the consequenes of hate crime and pokes fun at the kind of questions cis people ask trans guys ---
Short Films: Things Trans Guys are Tired of Hearing, Unfinished, How Much Longer, Dear Lou Sullivan, Text, Boys Don't Wear Nail Polish

7:15 PM: Tant Pis Chapter One — This film follows the lives of three trans women of color as they leave behind the suburbs of Belem, Brazil, and embark on an exploration of self-discovery in the big city.

8:30 PM: A Star Named Sonja — This film tells the story of the rise and fall of one of Prague’s most famous nineties drag queens.

6:30 PM: Closing Night Reception & art display by local trans/queer artists Gavin Rouille & Esme Rodriquez.
Q&A with artists will take place briefly at 7:10 PM. Complementary coffee & cookies will be served.

7:30 PM: Desevlo — A women discovers her boyfriends true identity as they embark on a journey of love and exploration.

8:00 PM: Like Other Girls Do — This film explores the compelling story of a Montenegrian woman who lived her life as a man.

8:45 PM: OYA: Something Happened on the Way to Africa! — This film follows the journey of queer, gender non-conforming Nigerian Segi Adebanjo, we they return to Africa.

Ticket prices for each event are $10, but you can purchase an All Festival Pass for $30, which will save you $10 if you plan to attend all screening nights. Additionally, All Festival Pass holders will have access to reserved seating in the first two rows of the theater(s). There are discount passes and tickets available for students or seniors.

Gender Reel, is dedicated to making sure our events are accessible, safe and inclusive to all. Therefore, if you plan to attend, but cannot afford a ticket please contact Joe @ prior to Sept 30 -- one week before our first event.
