On April 3rd, a fire destroyed McMahon’s Irish Pub on East Lake Street in Minneapolis, killing 6. Fortunately, there were survivors including KFAI host Tom Mighty T-Bone Stinchfield, host of Our Show of Shows:ourshowofshows. On Sunday May 2nd, the Cabooze: is holding a benefit for Tom and other survivors.

Collective Eye welcomes Pamela Espeland, Jazz writer for Minnpost: Thursday, October 30th for a Halloween edition of Bewitching Jazz. Nellie McKay, Kelly Rossum, Irv Williams, Patricia Barber, Mary Lou Williams and Miles Davis are just a few of the artists who have penned “spooky” songs. Tune in Thursday, from 10:30 pm until the bewitching hour, midnight!

Our old friends Big Surf will give us a full two hour set of all their great surf tunes. They’ve been on KFAI before and we love ‘em. BIG SURF takes surf genre signatures — the pounding drums, rapid fire guitar licks, those oceans of sweet, sweet reverb – and spikes the punch with progressive song structures and world music flare.

Our old buddies from Surf Stomp are coming by the Radio Rumpus Room garage on Friday, May 14.

Bigbody Applehead is a young emerging jazz quartet with a song list that encompasses bossa novas, modern jazz standards, the Great American Songbook, and originals. Members will drop by Rhythm & Grooves (Tuesdays, 10:30 pm – Midnight) to preview their appearance at the Hat Trick Lounge on Friday, September 5th.

Bill Geezy will be making a guest appearance on Freewheelin’ with Jackson Buck Monday, June 23 at 9:00.

Radio Rumpus Room again celebrates the rockin’ sounds of Minnesota from 1963-67 in our 6th annual Bird Dance Beat special, taking place this Friday, May 25 at 9:00 p.m.

The Bitter Spills are Baby Grant Johnson and Rich Mattson, two performers with long and varied musical histories.

Black Audience: and Doug Otto & Friends: will be the guest performers at the November edition of FREEWHEELIN’ 1st FRIDAY at the 331 Club in Minneapolis.

KFAI will honor the end of Black History Month with a collection of documentaries and artist profiles on Thursday, February 28th, 2008 between 9am and 6pm.
