Friends,
After twenty years I've reached the decision that it's time to leave the Dakota Dave Hull Show. It's been a privilege and an honor to be a part of KFAI Fresh Air Community Radio in Minneapolis and I'll miss it greatly. I've truly been humbled by the trust that's been given to me week in and week out. It's a great joy to share something that one is passionate about.
I'm finding myself with less time these days and the last thing in the world I want to do is "phone it in," as they say. I've tried very hard to create a quality show that can't be pigeonholed. I've tried, for example, not to repeat a song for 12 months after I play it, and I spend a fair amount of time each week listening and deciding what to play and what goes together. My heart will always be in traditional folk music, but there are so many interesting branches I don't think I'd ever run out of great performances. Time, on the other hand, is a more precious commodity with each passing day. I feel like I'm asking too much of my substitute hosts, Pop Wagner and David Cummings—who've both done an incredible job—and it seems that each year I'm doing more, not less, gigging and traveling.
Folk music is in good hands. Young people are embracing the good stuff. Old-Time music, Blues, Bluegrass, Jazz in all its many colors, and ethnic music from all over the place are in better shape than they’ve been in years.
January 19th will mark my last show. After that I'll still be around and I'll still be supporting KFAI as much as I can. And I'll be listening to the good old good ones.

The Dakota Dave Hull Show covers the broad spectrum of folk and roots music. Drawing on his own massive, eclectic CD and record collection, Dave - an acoustic guitarist, recording artist and producer of national reputation - plows the soil, plumbs the roots, and trims the branches of a variety of traditions: Anglo-Celtic, Appalachian, Brazilian, Caribbean, jazz, blues, and more. Sometimes he does it with guests, including one semi-regular, songwriter Jerry Clark, as well as prominent folk musicians like Andy Cohen, Paul Geremia, Tim Eriksen and others who happen to be passing through town. The editors of the Minneapolis StarTribune call it the best folk music show in town. Check out Dave's website: www.dakotadavehull.com.
